Murder committed simply because of a dispute over wearing a hat to a memorial service.

The Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Court has opened a trial to hear the case against defendant Nguyen Thanh Hao (born in 1982) for the crime of murder.

The court also tried defendants Nguyen Thanh Hon (born in 1984), Nguyen Minh Sy (born in 1997), and Tran Tan Phu (born in 1992) for disturbing public order.

However, after questioning, the court decided to return the case file at the request of the Prosecutor's Office for further investigation to clarify whether there were accomplices in this case, along with several other issues that could not be addressed at the trial.

According to the records, at approximately 11:00 AM on April 1, 2017, Pham Hoang Anh (the victim) was invited to attend.memorial serviceat Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dong's house.

Seeing Anh wearing a hat, Nguyen Thanh Son (Dong's son) told Anh to take it off to be polite and then took the hat Anh was wearing off his head. This led to a heated argument and a fight between Anh and some of Son's brothers...

Some people tried to get Anh out of Mr. Dong's house. Anh got into his car and drove away, threatening to return and kill him.

After that, Son, Hao, Hon, Sy, and the others went to Son's house to continue drinking.

Before going to Son's house, Sy told Hon about Anh's threat to come back and chop them up, so Hon and Sy took two machetes and an iron pipe from Mr. Dong's house and left them in Son's yard.

At around 5 PM, Anh drove his motorbike, carrying Tran Tan Phu (Anh's nephew) and two machetes, to Son's house.

A fight broke out between the two sides here. As a result, the man was beaten to death.
