Angelina Jolie: 'I'm glad I'm getting older'

The Hollywood star opened up about how she coped with her surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes in March of this year.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the 2004 Esquire's Sexiest Woman shared candidly about one of the most difficult decisions any woman can make: having her ovaries removed.

"I actually enjoy this stage," the 40-year-old actor joked, "I prepared myself mentally from the beginning, and after the surgery, I've embraced the changes in my body very well."

The action star of "The Secret of the Ancient Tomb" revealed that although she feels older, it's the law of nature and she accepts it: "I'm actually happy that I've gotten older and more mature; I don't want to go back to my youth."

The screenwriter/director/actor of By the Sea – a film also starring Brad Pitt – has not hidden the fact that health issues have hampered the filming process.

The steamy scene between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is one of the details that fans are looking forward to in By the Sea.

“The script was completed before I underwent a mastectomy. It wasn't until filming that I realized I needed to make some changes, for example, I couldn't film scenes where I was topless anymore. Then, during post-production editing, I received news that I had a high risk of ovarian cancer and should undergo a mastectomy.”

Jolie revealed that it was a difficult decision, but the right one to make, given that both her grandmother and mother suffered from the disease.

“Now, my health is my top priority, not whether I have a beautiful body or not. I have a stable life with Brad and the kids. Brad always tells me that he cares about my intelligence, resourcefulness, and love for my family and society, not about superficial things like my appearance.”
