At just 16 months old, Princess Charlotte's smile and tiny waving fingers seemed to melt the hearts of all the officials and watchful eyes at the airport as she accompanied her parents and older brother on their official trip to Canada, beginning today (September 25).

Princess Charlotte and her older brother, Prince George, became the center of attention for all of Canada's politicians from the very first moment with a somewhat shy wave, as the family landed at the airport in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.

Little Princess Charlotte, wearing a pale blue dress, was carried by her mother, Duchess Kate, as they disembarked from the plane. Encouraged by her mother, the princess waved her tiny arms towards the public, her eyes scanning the surroundings.

Meanwhile, three-year-old Prince George held his father Prince William's hand and carefully took each step up the airplane stairs, his eyes showing a hint of wariness before becoming familiar with the new surroundings.

Both young stars were warmly welcomed by Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau. He knelt down and extended his hand to greet Prince George.

After a few minutes spent posing for photos, the royal family got into a waiting car to head to the British Columbia government building, where they will be staying for nine days.

While air bases were temporarily closed to make space for the public, main streets were decorated with hundreds of flags to welcome the visit of the British royal family.

Prince William is expected to deliver a public address to the Canadian public. He and his wife will also be welcomed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.

The Canadian government had also made thorough preparations to welcome the young family of four, which, according to the local newspaper Victoria, was a "particularly exciting" occasion for the visit.

Etiquette experts were brought in to provide guidance on royal conduct, including advice on how to properly say "Hello, Princess Kate" or how to tell a joke.

Government staff in British Columbia were also incredibly busy sprucing up the mansion to welcome Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Electrical outlets were covered, and decorations and potentially unsafe jewelry were kept out of the reach of the two young stars. Snacks were always provided in the room. Reports even indicated that a play area had been designed within the villa to cater to these two special guests.

Some notable itineraries of this trip include visiting the Yukon region, where the Duke and Duchess will go fishing, hiking, and meet with the First Nations indigenous community.

They will also gain practical experience to learn how to deal with social issues such as mental health problems, handling the refugee crisis stemming from the Syrian conflict, or the problems of alcohol and drug addiction among young mothers.
