GardencantaloupeThe melon crop of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoanh's family in Van Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district) received an investment of over 2.2 billion VND, but currently, the sales process is particularly difficult. Mr. Hoanh shared: "This melon crop was the most successful of the three harvests. We hadn't even had time to celebrate when the Covid-19 pandemic became complicated, and Yen Thanh district had to implement a complete social lockdown, making it difficult to sell our products."

Every day, we rely on social media to help us sell our produce, mainly by having people who need it shipped directly to them. Currently, we still have over 1.5 tons of cantaloupe ready for harvest in our garden that urgently need to be sold.

Normally, cantaloupes sold to customers at the farm range from 45,000 to 55,000 VND/kg, depending on the variety. However, given the current situation, the price has dropped to 35,000 VND/kg at the farm, with the hope that farmers will share the burden and support each other to recover their investment.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Duy Liem in Tan Thanh commune (Yen Thanh)The owner of a cantaloupe farm is in a state of anxiety. Mr. Liem said: "This cantaloupe crop is bountiful, yielding over 3 tons, and we'll be ready for harvest in about 10 days. Previously, we mainly sold our produce in Vinh City and neighboring districts, but now with the entire district under social distancing measures, we can't sell it."

Currently, Yen Thanh district has over 60 melon orchards in the harvesting season, mainly concentrated in Van Thanh, Xuan Thanh, and Nhan Thanh communes. There are currently about 10 tons of melons remaining unsold throughout the district. The next harvest will take place in about a week, with an expected yield of over 50 tons.

A representative from the Yen Thanh District Farmers' Association shared: Currently, the Yen Thanh District Farmers' Association is connecting with various outlets to sell melons for farmers, but due to the pandemic, it is very difficult. The Farmers' Association is actively promoting the product on social media to help farmers. However, "rescuing" the cantaloupe is very difficult now because many localities are implementing quarantine measures to prevent and control the epidemic. This is also a high-end product that usually has a high price, while many low-income people do not have the means to buy it...
