On December 2nd, TASS reported that, according to a joint statement by the UK, Germany, the US, and France released by the US State Department on December 1st, Berlin, Washington, London, and Paris believe that all parties in the Syrian conflict need to work to de-escalate tensions and ensure the safety of civilians.

"The current escalation only highlights the urgent need for a Syrian-led political solution to the conflict, consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254," the statement read, referring to the 2015 UN resolution supporting the peace process in Syria.

The Syrian military command announced on November 28 that units of the extremist group Jabhat al-Nusra had launched a large-scale attack on northern Syrian provinces the previous day.

According to sources, the terrorists attempted to seize several residential areas and military facilities, and also attacked government forces' positions.

The Syrian army launched an operation to repel the attack.

On November 30, the Syrian military command announced that government forces were conducting attacks on terrorist positions in Aleppo and were awaiting reinforcements.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the army had to regroup while repelling a terrorist attack on Aleppo to protect the lives of civilians and soldiers, and to prepare for a counterattack.
