"Existence is thanks to Trinh's music"

Minh Vuong is the fourth child, and the only son in a family of 6 children in Hung Dao commune, Hung Nguyen. When Minh Vuong was 10 years old, his mother passed away. Vuong's father, a soldier returning from a fierce battlefield, with many illnesses, after many years of fighting with illness, he also passed away, leaving Vuong in an empty house.

The family was poor, no one pursued a singing career and no one knew how to sing, except for the only son who had loved singing since he was 4 or 5 years old. Vuong said that he first learned about music thanks to his grandmother's lullabies, and after that, the dream of becoming a singer haunted him forever. Then one day, Vuong decided to enroll in the Vocal Music Department of Nghe An College of Culture and Arts. After graduating in 2006, unable to find a job, following the "trend" of rural youth at that time, Vuong also chose to go to the South, looking for opportunities for himself in industrial zones...

In the South, Vuong struggled in workers' dormitories in Binh Chieu, then in street food stalls... His fate as a foreigner, with an unstable job, a difficult family situation, and not being able to make money made Vuong suffer from fear and inferiority complex. Vuong could not count the number of nights he had to wander and sleep on the streets. There were times when he had no money in his pocket for a whole week, surrounded by hunger and boredom, his footsteps took him to 23-9 Park (Ho Chi Minh City).

Vuong met many people here, many of them were old people and children. Each person had a long story, a tragedy and also a desire... They huddled on stone benches, sharing the last piece of bread of the day. And many people knew Trinh through the songs that were heavy with fate. They sang for Vuong, and Vuong sang for them.

Vuong said that from then on, he turned to Trinh's music as a salvation in his life. Without a radio or CDs, Vuong often "listened to" in coffee shops or on someone's phone. When walking on the street, hearing Trinh's music coming from someone's house, no matter where, Vuong would stop and listen until the end of the song.

Vuong said: “I survived thanks to Trinh’s music! I survived the hungry nights, the temptations, the sufferings thanks to Trinh. And I returned to my hometown and lived with my father during his last days because of Trinh…”.

“To sing, that is happiness!”

After the flood in 2010 in his hometown, Vuong returned. Returned when the only thing left at home was his old and weak father, who was constantly hospitalized. The family's circumstances were too difficult, and his sisters and brothers had their own lives. Returned, and started farming, gardening, and plowing. Only the dream of singing was still constantly urging him. Vuong said, Trinh's songs never left his lips. No matter how tired, no matter how sad.

In addition to the fields, Vuong occasionally attends weddings because he is invited to sing. Vuong practices some new songs to sing at weddings, but does not forget to occasionally add in a few Trinh songs that Vuong finds suitable in tune. “Only by singing Trinh can I be myself. It seems to have seeped into my blood,” Vuong shared.

From here, someone “discovered” Vuong’s very unique, very natural voice. Vuong found friends who liked to listen to him sing, and was invited to participate in several charity concerts and concerts in memory of Trinh Cong Son. Currently, the Sonata music cafe has a “contract” with Vuong to sing Trinh songs a few times a week. The “salary” is not large, but for Vuong, being able to sing is happiness.

Until now, Vuong still does not have a music player in his house. The farmer born in 1983 has never known about the internet or Facebook. Vuong's assets are songs recorded on a cheap phone, and a book about Trinh Cong Son given to him by a friend a long time ago.

But fortunately, around Vuong there are people who love his voice and his simple, honest personality. Among them is the young musician Quoc Nam.

The idea of helping Minh Vuong reach the public through recordings was thought up by musician Quoc Nam and carried out in his own studio. “The reason for helping Minh Vuong is not too special, I always respect people who are talented, determined and know how to rise up. Watching Minh Vuong sing is full of passion and dedication whether it is on stage, in the studio or in everyday moments...” - musician Quoc Nam shared.
