According to RIA Novosti, the Times (UK) on January 22 quoted senior British military officials as saying that senior British officials opposed US President Donald Trump's promise of a quick solution to the conflict in Ukraine because this is believed to give Russia the opportunity to build up its military strength.

“Senior Defense Department officials believe that once President Trump finalizes a peace deal, there will be a race between Russia and the West to prepare their militaries for the next conflict,” the article said.

In addition, British Lieutenant General Ralph Wooddiss, head of NATO's Rapid Reaction Corps, believes that Russia will achieve even more success in the future.

At the same time, NATO allies are concerned that Ukraine is not in a strong enough position to start negotiations, which would put the country at a disadvantage and lead to territorial loss, the Times said.

Previously, on January 22, the Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump had instructed his special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, to find a way to end the Ukraine conflict within 100 days.

Before his inauguration, Mr. Trump expressed hope that talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine could take place even sooner than in the next six months. He had previously promised that he would be able to reach a negotiated solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

US President Trump has repeatedly stated that he could resolve the conflict in Ukraine in one day. Meanwhile, Russia believes that this is too complex a problem to have such a simple solution.

On January 14, Bloomberg quoted a source as saying that Mr. Trump did not care about the fate of Ukraine and did not consider this conflict to be of strategic importance to US interests.
