Britain to take in more than 300 refugee children from France

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve last week called on London to help reunite underage refugees in a camp near Calais with their families in the UK.

British Home Secretary Amber Rudd later said the children could be transferred immediately if Paris provided all the necessary information.

According to BBC TV, Britain could accept more than 300 refugee minors in cooperation with French authorities. However, later, Minister Rudd estimated that this number was only about 100.

British authorities will focus on children who already have a legal right to receive a family in the UK, media reports say.

Since 2015, Calais has become a major migrant camp, and is also known for its poor living conditions.

Thousands of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa are currently housed in the squalid camp, not far from the Channel Tunnel, where refugees are trying to cross in the hope of reaching Britain.

The remainder of the camp will be closed in October, according to French authorities; most of the camp was dismantled in March this year.
