Mr. Son: Drilling wells to prevent drought for tea

Mr. Duong Thanh Hoang's family in Thang 8 village, Dinh Son commune has just invested 60 million VND to drill 2 wells in the garden and buy 6 mobile irrigation nozzles to water 1.5 hectares of tea.
Mr. Hoang said: "The mobile irrigation nozzle model is simple but effective. The water pipes are separate, convenient to move. After a few hours of watering this bed, move to another bed, ensuring the entire tea area is watered evenly.

The entire Anh Son district currently has 2,587 hectares of tea concentrated in the communes of Hung Son, Long Son, Dinh Son and Cam Son... The district has invested in building 11 irrigation works in the area, including 5 large dams and 6 electric pumping stations.

Mr. Phan Van Hoi - Vice Chairman of Dinh Son Commune People's Committee added: To protect the newly planted tea area and ensure the good development of more than 100 hectares of tea business, people in the commune proactively invested in a mobile nozzle irrigation system and applied manual flooding irrigation methods. However, due to the high cost of drilling wells and the sprinkler system, from 20 to 40 million VND, many farmers are facing many difficulties.

In Hung Son commune, the locality with the largest tea area in the district, people have also implemented similar solutions. Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoan - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said that the commune currently has 470 households participating in tea growing with a total area of over 540 hectares; each year supplying the processing factory with nearly 4,500 tons of fresh tea buds, earning over 14 billion VND. In addition to solutions from the people, the commune takes advantage of the dam system to create humidity, and is also building an irrigation project for tea plants.
