The Duong Nghiep tilapia farming model was piloted by Anh Son district at dam 32, village 5, Duc Son commune, belonging to Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc's family. Participating in the model, Mr. Ngoc's family was supported with 50% of plastic cages, 50% of fish fry, 40% of fish feed with a total budget of 69.2 million from the province's science and technology career support fund. In addition, the family was also guided by the Aquaculture Technology and Services Company Limited on farming techniques according to VietGap process.
With a scale of 200m3divided into 4 plastic cages, Mr. Ngoc raised 4,000 hybrid fish of F1 generation originating from the Philippines with a very high male ratio. The weight of the fish when released was 300-400 fish/kg, density 20 fish/m2, the survival rate of fish reached 98%.

Mr. Ngoc shared: Duong Nghiep tilapia has the characteristics of short body, small head, high back, bulging eyes, thick meat, delicious, no small bones and high economic value. This is an easy-to-raise species, has good resistance to fluctuations in environmental factors, does not have diseases, grows fast, and can be raised intensively.
Compared to other breeds, especially monosex tilapia, Duong Nghiep tilapia grows relatively fast, 1.4-1.6 times. After 6 months of care, this type of fish reaches a weight of 0.8-0.9 kg/fish and gives Mr. Ngoc's family a harvest of 3.5 tons. After deducting all expenses, Mr. Ngoc earns a profit of over 46 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Sang - Deputy Head of Anh Son Infrastructure Economics Department said: Currently, Duong Nghiep tilapia is the main farming species in the world and is chosen as the number 1 species for clean tilapia farming for export in our country. Through monitoring the pilot model, it shows that raising Duong Nghiep tilapia has a productivity and output many times higher than traditional farming species.
This is also a breed with uncomplicated farming techniques, high resistance, suitable for local water sources and farming conditions. With the effectiveness of this model, in the coming time, Anh Son district will expand to many other farming households in the area to exploit the maximum potential of aquaculture with an area of over 1,000 hectares of ponds in the district, helping Anh Son farmers access new technology aquaculture methods, contributing to the local poverty reduction program.
