The Đường Nghiệp tilapia farming model was piloted in Anh Sơn district at Dam 32, Hamlet 5, Đức Sơn commune, by the family of Mr. Nguyễn Văn Ngọc. Participating in the model, Mr. Ngọc's family received support totaling 69.2 million VND from the provincial science and technology support fund, covering 50% of plastic cages, 50% of fingerlings, and 40% of fish feed. In addition, the family received guidance on farming techniques according to VietGAP standards from the Aquaculture Technology and Services Company Limited.
With a size of 200m3Divided into 4 plastic cages, Mr. Ngoc raised 4,000 F1 hybrid fingerlings of Philippine origin, which had a very high male ratio. The fish weighed 300-400 fish/kg at stocking density, with a density of 20 fish/m².2The fish survival rate reached 98%.

Mr. Ngoc shared: "The Đường Nghiệp tilapia has the characteristics of a short body, small head, high back, protruding eyes, thick, flavorful flesh, no small bones, and high economic value. It is easy to raise, has good resistance to environmental fluctuations, does not suffer from diseases, grows quickly, and can be raised intensively."
Compared to other varieties, especially monosex tilapia, Đường Nghiệp tilapia grow relatively faster, 1.4-1.6 times faster. After 6 months of care, this type of fish reaches a weight of 0.8-0.9 kg/fish, yielding a harvest of 3.5 tons for Mr. Ngọc's family. After deducting all expenses, Mr. Ngọc earned a profit of over 46 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Sang, Deputy Head of the Economic and Infrastructure Department of Anh Son District, said: Currently, the Đường Nghiệp tilapia is the main species farmed worldwide and has been selected as the number one species for clean tilapia farming for export in our country. Monitoring of the pilot model shows that farming Đường Nghiệp tilapia yields significantly higher productivity and output compared to traditional farming species.
This species also has uncomplicated farming techniques, high resistance, and is suitable for the local water sources and farming conditions. Given the effectiveness of this model, Anh Son district plans to expand it to more households in the area in the future, maximizing the potential of aquaculture with over 1,000 hectares of ponds and lakes in the district. This will help Anh Son farmers access new aquaculture technologies and contribute to the local poverty reduction program.
