He tied his younger brother's hands and feet on the death anniversary day.
(Baonghean.vn) - Just because of a conflict in contributing money to buy tables and chairs for the church, Mr. De, residing in Nhan Son commune (Do Luong), carried his younger brother's tray of food to the ground, pushed the fruits away, dropped the altar photo, and used a mourning scarf to tie his brother's hands and feet.
On May 15, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a criminal appeal trial of Vo Huu De (born 1939), residing in Nhan Son commune, Do Luong district, for the crime of "illegal arrest".
Vo Huu De and Vo Huu H. are brothers. Mr. H.'s failure to contribute money to build and purchase furniture for the church has caused the relationship between Mr. H. and his siblings to be strained.
On the afternoon of December 2, 2018, Mr. H. brought a tray of food and offerings to celebrate his eldest brother's death anniversary the next day. Thinking that Mr. H. did not contribute money to buy tables and chairs but still came to the ceremony, Mr. De carried Mr. H.'s tray of food downstairs, used his hand to sweep the fruit, memorial photo and incense bowl to the ground and said, "This table is mine. If you want to worship, bring the table up and worship."

Mr. H. said nothing and carried the tray of offerings home with his daughter. Back home, Mr. H. borrowed another table and brought it to the church to place the offerings.
When Mr. H. and his wife brought in offerings to burn incense, Mr. De suddenly stood behind and used a mourning scarf to wrap around Mr. H.'s neck. Then, Mr. De and another younger brother grabbed one end of the rope and pulled Mr. H. backward from inside the house to the yard. Mr. H. was also punched in the left side by his brothers.
Vo Huu De used a mourning scarf to tie Mr. H's legs and arms behind his back. Then, Mr. De grabbed Mr. H's hair with one hand and under his chin with the other, dragged him from the yard to the church steps and poured two bottles of wine into Mr. H's mouth, but Mr. H kept his mouth shut.
The incident was then reported to the police. Mr. H. was taken to the hospital for treatment. After being discharged from the hospital, Mr. H. submitted a request for an assessment of the degree of health damage and requested legal action against Vo Huu De.
Nghe An Province Forensic Center concluded that Mr. Vo Huu H. was affected by an external force that broke the anterior arch of ribs 3 and 4; the body damage caused by the injury at the time of examination was 5%.
During the investigation, Vo Huu De confessed that the cause of the conflict between the brothers in the family was because H. did not contribute to the construction and purchase of tables and chairs in the church. Therefore, when Mr. H. brought the trays and offerings to Mr. De, H. did not allow it, so he disturbed and damaged the tables and chairs in the church.
At the first instance trial held by the People's Court of Do Luong district, Vo Huu De was sentenced to 6 months in prison, suspended, for the crime of "Illegal arrest".
Mr. De then appealed for a reduced sentence and requested that Mr. Vo Huu H. be punished, and also requested compensation worth 500,000 VND for the table and chairs that Mr. H. destroyed.
At court, defendant De could not provide any new details of the case, so the appellate court rejected the defendant’s appeal. Vo Huu De was sentenced to 6 months in prison but given a suspended sentence for the crime of “illegal arrest”.
