Ánh Viên wins gold medal, breaks record at AIMAG 5

The swimmer from Can Tho brought home the seventh gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 2017 Indoor and Martial Arts Games, finishing first in the 200m individual medley on the evening of September 22nd.

Ánh Viên led in all four events: 50m, 100m, 150m, and 200m. She finished the race in 2 minutes 09 seconds 78, 2 seconds 89 faster than second-place finisher Zang Chenyao of China. She also broke her own record of 2 minutes 10 seconds 05, set in 2013. This achievement was also better than her gold medal win at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia (2 minutes 14 seconds 25).

Also in swimming, Duy Khoi won a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley. The Vietnamese swimmer finished in 1 minute 57 seconds 60. The gold medal went to Qin Haiyang of China with 1 minute 55 seconds 20, and the silver medal to Yan Ting-Yao with 1 minute 56 seconds 90.

Before Ánh Viên, the trio of Châu Tuyết Vân, Nguyễn Thị Lệ Kim, and Liên Tuyết Mai also brought home a gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation in the women's team taekwondo event.

As of 9 PM on September 22nd (Hanoi time), the Vietnamese sports delegation ranked seventh at AIMAG 5 with seven gold medals, six silver medals, and 12 bronze medals.
