Anh Vien won gold medal, broke record at AIMAG 5

The swimmer from Can Tho brought home the seventh gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 2017 Indoor and Martial Arts Games, when he won the 200m medley event on the evening of September 22.

Anh Vien led in all four milestones of 50m, 100m, 150m and 200m. She finished the race in 2 minutes 09 seconds 78, 2 seconds 89 more than the runner-up Zang Chenyao of China. She also broke the record of 2 minutes 10 seconds 05 set by herself in 2013. This time, her achievement was also better when Anh Vien won the gold medal at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia (2 minutes 14 seconds 25).

Also in swimming, Duy Khoi won a bronze medal in the 200m medley. The Vietnamese swimmer finished after 1 minute 57 seconds 60. The gold medal went to Qin Haiyang of China with 1 minute 55 seconds 20. The silver medal went to Yan Ting-Yao with 1 minute 56 seconds 90.

Before Anh Vien, the trio Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim and Lien Tuyet Mai also brought home a gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation in the women's taekwondo team event.

As of 9:00 p.m. on September 22 (Hanoi time), the Vietnamese sports delegation ranked seventh at AIMAG 5 with seven gold medals, six silver medals and 12 bronze medals.
