Apple overhauls Siri in iOS 27: Becoming a versatile AI chatbot to rival ChatGPT.
Apple plans to transform Siri into an intelligent chatbot in iOS 27, deeply integrating Google's Gemini model to handle complex tasks and natural two-way dialogue.
Siri on iOS 27 marks a major turning point for Apple, shifting from a traditional virtual assistant to a comprehensive AI chatbot model. Instead of just executing single commands, the new Siri is capable of two-way conversations, summarizing text, and analyzing personal data in real time, directly competing with rivals like ChatGPT and Claude.

The overhauled Siri version is expected to launch with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. In response to the explosion of artificial intelligence, Apple has shifted its strategy from integrating only discrete AI features to building an advanced conversational system. The next generation of Siri will no longer be limited to simple questions but will be able to handle multi-step tasks and answer complex queries.
Standalone application and multimodal interoperability
A notable new feature is the introduction of a standalone Siri app with an interface similar to modern chatbots. Users can view chat history in list or grid format, and interact flexibly through both voice and text. Conversations are displayed as chat bubbles similar to iMessage, accompanied by suggestions to help users easily start a conversation.
Despite having its own app, Siri remains deeply integrated into the system. The assistant can be activated via keywords or a physical button, allowing for quick responses across Apple's entire ecosystem of devices.
Expand features and personalize the experience.
Siri's capabilities have been dramatically expanded with tasks such as visual web search, analysis of uploaded documents, and image content creation. Thanks to its deep access to personal data and on-screen context, Siri could completely replace the current Spotlight search engine. The assistant is also integrated into core applications like Mail, Photos, and Xcode to assist with coding, photo editing, or sending automated emails.
In terms of interface, Apple is experimenting with integrating Siri into Dynamic Island with its signature glowing effect. Additionally, options like "Ask Siri" or "Type with Siri" will appear directly in app menus and the iOS keyboard to optimize user productivity.
Technical infrastructure and strategic partnership with Google
The AI system on iOS 27 will be supported by Google's Gemini model and cloud infrastructure through a long-term partnership agreement between the two companies. Apple also plans to use Google's Tensor Processors (TPUs) to handle the large volume of daily queries. In addition, users can optionally integrate third-party chatbots such as ChatGPT (OpenAI) or Claude (Anthropic) through the "Extensions" section in the settings.
Apple is expected to officially announce Siri's chatbot features at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8th. This is seen as the company's biggest effort to regain its position in the global artificial intelligence race.
