Apple releases iOS 26.5 beta 3: Improvements to Apple Maps and new RCS messaging security.
Apple has officially released the iOS 26.5 beta 3 test version, featuring significant changes to Apple Maps and RCS message encryption, with a wider release expected in the coming weeks.
Apple has officially released the third beta version of iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 to the developer community. This new update comes just a week after beta 2 was released, indicating that the software development process is accelerating in preparation for the official release to iPhone and iPad users in the coming weeks.
Developer update procedure
Currently, registered developers can proactively download the update via over-the-air (OTA). To do this, users access the Settings on their device, select General, then go to Software Update. Here, the "Beta Update" option will allow them to activate the download of iOS 26.5 or iPadOS 26.5 beta 3 if their Apple ID account is linked to the beta program.

Upgraded artificial intelligence on Apple Maps.
One of the most notable changes in this beta version is in the Maps app (Apple Maps). A new feature called "Suggested Places" has been integrated to optimize the user's exploration experience. The system will analyze current travel trends combined with recent search history to suggest suitable destinations in the vicinity.
However, in addition to convenience, technical analysts have also discovered that Apple is beginning to lay the groundwork for displaying ads within the Maps app. This is a strategic move to expand the service ecosystem, although it may spark controversy regarding the unintrusive user experience.
RCS message security and operating system interoperability.
Regarding cross-platform interoperability, Apple continues to test the End-to-End Encryption Protocol (E2EE) for Rich Communication Services (RCS) messages. This is an effort to ensure maximum security when iPhone users text with Android devices. Although this feature appeared in beta 26.4 and was then removed, its return in iOS 26.5 beta 3 shows that Apple is being extremely cautious in stabilizing this new security standard.
Changes specific to the European Union (EU) market
Complying with strict EU legal regulations, Apple is testing a range of features open to third-party wearable devices. Products such as wireless headphones or smartwatches from brands other than Apple can now access system features such as:
- Proximity pairing.
- Forward system notifications in real time.
- Supports Live Activities feature on the lock screen.
These improvements promise to deliver a seamless user experience in Europe, reducing the exclusive reliance on accessories like AirPods or Apple Watch.

Expectations for Siri and the official launch roadmap.
Notably, all three initial beta versions of iOS 26.5 failed to bring groundbreaking changes to the Siri virtual assistant. This reinforces experts' view that Apple is prioritizing the integration of major artificial intelligence (AI) improvements for the next generation of its operating system, iOS 27.
The official iOS 26.5 update is expected to be widely released in the next few weeks, compatible with devices ranging from older models to the latest ones like the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air. General users are advised to wait for the official release to ensure the highest level of device stability.
