Arsenal recreate the "Odegaard scenario" with Arda Guler?
Arsenal want to borrow Arda Guler from Real Madrid, continuing the success they had with Martin Odegaard, to exploit the potential of the young Turkish star.
Arda Guler, a 19-year-old Real Madrid talent, is attracting attention from Arsenal as he has not had much opportunity to show his ability at the Santiago Bernabeu. The London club hopes to repeat the success they had with Martin Odegaard – a deal that made a big splash in 2021.

In 2015, Real Madrid signed Odegaard when he was just 16 years old, beating a host of European giants. However, a midfield full of stars like Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro prevented Odegaard from breaking into the first team, forcing him to play at many clubs on loan. Arsenal loaned the Norwegian midfielder in 2021, before buying him outright for 40 million euros. Currently, Odegaard is a mainstay and captain of the "Gunners".
Similarly, Arda Guler is also struggling at Real Madrid. Moved from Fenerbahce in 2023 for 20 million euros, the Turkish midfielder has only played 307 minutes this season despite an impressive performance at Euro 2024. Sport said Arsenal are actively pursuing Guler, with plans to loan him in January to explore his potential.
Guler’s loan move will not only help him gain experience in the Premier League, but also give Arsenal the chance to assess his suitability before deciding on a permanent deal. If successful, this deal could be a big boost, recreating an “Odegaard version 2.0” at Emirates.
