To support the team at the 2019 Asian Cup, the Football Association of Thailand appointed former player Choketawee as assistant coach.

On the morning of December 18, Bangkok time, at the headquarters of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), the leaders of the Golden Temple country's football met to discuss the preparation plan for the 2019 Asian Cup finals, according toKomchadluek.

During the meeting, FAT President Somyot Poompanmoung announced the decision to appoint Choketawee Promrut. This is the third assistant to coach Milovan Rajevac, besides Sirisak Yodyardthai (Thai) and Milovan Zecovic (Serbian).

The remaining positions in the Thai coaching staff remain the same. The team that worked well with Rajevac, including goalkeeper coach Sasa Todic, fitness coach Nebojsa Stamenkovic, and doctor Mitrovic Velibor, will continue to be used.

"Thank you FAT for trusting and giving me this task. I hope to pass on my experience to the players, helping them regain their confidence. My main task is to act as a bridge between coach Rajevac. Each assistant has their own job, and I am satisfied with this job," Choketawee said at the launch.

At the 2018 AFF Cup, Sirisak was assigned the role of a bridge between coach Rajevac and the players. However, the 49-year-old assistant failed to complete his task. According to Thai media, Sirisak did not have the authority and voice to help the Thai players stabilize their mentality.

Choketawee is a famous Thai football player, a contemporary of Kiatisuk. He came to Vietnam, led HAGL in 2005, then led Thailand U23 and won the gold medal at the 28th SEA Games in 2015. After that, due to disagreements with the national team coach Kiatisuk, Choketawee asked to withdraw from FAT.

The decision to appoint Choketawee came a day before the Thai team was due to meet, today, December 19. The Thai media welcomed the event. They even called Choketawee "Mr. Lucky" thanks to the gold medal he won at the 28th SEA Games.

Choketawee, 43 years old, won the gold medal in men's football at the 28th SEA Games as a coach.

Like Vietnam, Thailand has announced a list of 27 players to prepare for the 2019 Asian Cup. According toSiam SportThis list will be shortened to 23 people before departure to West Asia, no later than the evening of December 26.

At the 2019 Asian Cup, Thailand is in an easy group when facing two weaker opponents, India and Bahrain. The goal of the "War Elephants" in the tournament is to win second place, hoping to secure a place in the round of 16.
