Asus ProArt PA32QCV: Is a 6K monitor a viable alternative to the Apple Pro Display XDR?

Priced at $1,399, it targets videographers and graphic designers using both Mac and Windows operating systems, providing a viable alternative to Apple's Pro Display XDR.

Professional design: 218 ppi pixel density and flexible ergonomics.

The ProArt PA32QCV features a silver bezel design, with overall dimensions of 24.3 x 28.1 x 9.5 inches and a weight of approximately 9.3 kg. The thin bezels optimize the display space on the 31.5-inch IPS panel. The compact yet sturdy rectangular stand connects to the body via a thick column with convenient cable management holes.

The most striking feature is the 6K resolution (6,016 x 3,384 pixels) on a 16:9 aspect ratio. This results in a pixel density of 218 ppi, comparable to Apple's Pro Display XDR. At typical viewing distances, individual pixels are virtually indistinguishable, delivering incredibly smooth and detailed images.

In HDR10 mode (VESA DisplayHDR 600 compliant), the measured brightness was 671 nits, exceeding the manufacturer's 600 nits. The contrast ratio was also very impressive, reaching 2,911:1, close to the advertised 3,000:1.

Color coverage:The PA32QCV demonstrates excellent color reproduction capabilities, covering almost all common color spaces: 99.9% sRGB and 99.9% DCI-P3. With the Adobe RGB color space, the monitor achieves 89.6%, a good result for print-related work.

Color accuracy:The Delta E (dE) index, which measures color deviation, was recorded at 2.5 before calibration. While slightly higher than stated (below 2), this is still a fairly good result. However, for absolute color accuracy in professional work, users should use dedicated color calibration equipment.

Experience and compatibility

Navigating the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu is done via a small joystick and five control buttons on the bottom right edge of the screen. The PA32QCV works seamlessly with both Windows and Apple computers. Asus has integrated two color modes specifically for Mac: Display P3 and M Model-P3 (simulating a MacBook screen), along with several other standard modes such as sRGB, DCI-P3, and Adobe RGB.

In practical use with both video and images, the colors are displayed vividly, and details in both bright and dark areas are well reproduced. Video playback is smooth, without tearing, thanks to adaptive synchronization technology.

The Asus ProArt PA32QCV is a high-performance 6K monitor, particularly suitable for video and graphic creators who don't want to invest heavily in the Apple Pro Display XDR.
