ATM has problem 'spitting out paper'?
Regarding a cardholder withdrawing money at an ATM and receiving a printed 500,000 VND bill instead of real money, a bank representative explained that the transaction was conducted while the machine was being tested, so real money had not been placed in the tray, leading to this rare incident.
The incident occurred on the morning of March 1 at a PVcomBank ATM in Big C Thang Long (Hanoi). A VIB cardholder withdrew 500,000 VND, but instead of receiving the full amount, the customer was surprised to see the ATM spit out a rectangular green piece of paper with the number 500,000 printed on it. Immediately after, the cardholder received a text message informing him that the money had been deducted from his account.

Sharing with the press, a representative of PVcomBank admitted that this was an incident because today the bank was installing and testing a new ATM as well as upgrading the system. The bank explained that the ATM at Big C Thang Long this morning was tested by the contractor and had not been handed over to the bank. The reason the cardholder encountered the above situation was because the transaction was made at the time when the contractor was handling the transmission line and was temporarily absent from the ATM. During the test run, the ATM's cash tray did not have real money but was placed with demo money.
"Because it is still in the testing process and the contractor has not yet handed over the technology to PVcomBank, the real money has not been transferred to the fund and the customer has withdrawn the demo money," said a PVcomBank representative.
After receiving the information, PVcomBank immediately carried out an investigation to refund the money to the customer. The incident caused by the contractor's construction process was quickly resolved by PVcomBank to ensure the smooth operation of the new ATM system.
Previously, PVcomBank had also notified customers about the system upgrade via text message. However, the fact that the ATM at Big C Thang Long was in the testing phase, had no real money, and was not alerted to customers who wanted to make transactions led to this incident.
