Australia is committed to supporting and continuing the TPP ratification process.

The new Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Craig Chittick, stated that the Australian Government is committed to supporting the TPP and will continue the ratification process.

On the afternoon of November 24th, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the new Australian Ambassador, Mr. Craig Chittick, who has just assumed his duties in Vietnam.

Welcoming the Ambassador to his new post in Vietnam, the Prime Minister emphasized that Australia and Vietnam enjoy a strong relationship in many areas, especially in trade, with growth increasing year after year.

Thanking the Australian Government and people for providing ODA to Vietnam, the Prime Minister stated that this funding has been used effectively over the years. Vietnam and Australia are actively cooperating in many economic and trade fields, and the two countries share a common voice on many regional and international issues.

With approximately 50,000 Vietnamese students currently studying in Australia, the Prime Minister stated that one of the key reasons is the high quality of education in Australia and the Australian government's strong commitment to quality education. These students serve as an important bridge to further contribute to the strengthening of the Vietnam-Australia relationship.

Australia is a reliable partner of Vietnam, and Vietnam wishes to cooperate with Australia in many areas where Australia has strengths, such as science and technology and mineral extraction. Vietnam also hopes that the bilateral relationship will develop comprehensively in all areas, including economics, culture, education and training, and tourism.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Ambassador's proposals for cooperation projects on poverty reduction and gender equality in Vietnam, and said he would soon direct relevant ministries and agencies to implement cooperation with Australia in this field.

Regarding the TPP agreement, the Prime Minister also welcomed Australia's continued efforts to promote the signing of the TPP in the near future, even if the US does not participate in the agreement. On this occasion, the Prime Minister wished the Ambassador success in his nhiệm vụ in Vietnam, opening a new chapter in the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

For his part, the Ambassador thanked Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for taking the time to receive him and conveyed greetings from the Australian Prime Minister; he stated that his mission is to promote the good relations between the two countries through concrete cooperation activities.

The Ambassador stated that the cooperative relationship between the two countries is developing well in many areas, and informed the Prime Minister that the Australian Government is committed to supporting the TPP and continuing the ratification process. Australia also supports Vietnam's candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.

The two sides are also cooperating well in the fields of defense and security, as demonstrated through cooperation in law enforcement between the two countries; economic cooperation has taken place at both the government and business levels.

The Ambassador welcomed the support of senior Vietnamese leaders for ODA projects funded by Australia, and stated that Australia's development aid to Vietnam focuses on three areas based on Vietnam's socio-economic development plan: supporting the private sector, human resource training, and helping to bridge the gap in certain areas, especially in disadvantaged regions.

With 50,000 students currently studying in Australia, the Ambassador believes this serves as an important bridge to promote cooperation between the two countries. Beyond education, there is potential for cooperation in the field of telecommunications technology. A delegation from the University of Technology Sydney is currently in Vietnam exploring opportunities for collaboration in this area, specifically in the research and development of 5G networks.

With both countries possessing abundant agricultural products, the Ambassador expressed his hope that both sides would continue to strengthen cooperation to bring each other's agricultural products to the dinner tables.
