People in Vinh city's flower village struggle to "save" capital
(Baonghean.vn) - Due to unfavorable weather conditions, flowers and ornamental plants supplied to the Tet market this year in flower and ornamental plant villages in Vinh City are not beautiful, so the selling price has "hit rock bottom", flower growers are worried that it will be difficult to recover the capital invested in planting for the Tet market this year.
These days, the flower and ornamental plant village of Nghi Lien commune (Vinh city) is quite bustling with buyers and sellers, traders and people from Vinh city as well as neighboring areas coming to buy flowers for Tet.
Although the quantity of flowers supplied to the market in Nghi Lien commune's ornamental flower village is quite large, growers are unhappy because the selling price has dropped dramatically because the flowers are not as beautiful as expected.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga - a flower grower in Nghi Lien said: If traders or people buy chrysanthemums wholesale at the garden and choose the flowers, they can only sell them for 3,500 VND/root, while at this time last year the price of a chrysanthemum root was 5,000 VND.
Ms. Tran Thi Quyen - another flower grower in Nghi Lien, shared: Every year, traders place orders quite early and the flower gardens sell quite easily. This year, traders also placed orders but the amount of money they paid was very small, because the quality of the flowers was not good. And on the day of purchase, they almost only bought flowers corresponding to the amount of the deposit in advance, so many families were not interested.

In Kim Chi flower and ornamental plant village, Nghi An commune, the flower gardens are also sluggish even though Tet is near. Mr. Le Van Sau - Secretary of Kim Chi Flower Village Party Cell, said: This year, flower growers have lost their crops due to the weather. To save their capital, families have to harvest and sell at markets and flower shops. On the other hand, with poor flower quality like this year, growers are not very interested, and have switched to trading ornamental plants from other localities to supply to customers.

In addition to chrysanthemums and some other flowers that have failed in their harvest, roses have also failed to meet people's expectations due to pests, leaf burn, and small flowers, forcing flower gardens to only keep the roots to care for the next season. Photo: LT |
