The Polish government has signed a contract with the PGZ and Kongsberg consortium to deploy a large-scale intelligent air defense network against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Poland has officially launched a large-scale anti-drone system project called the "Drone Wall." With a total investment of approximately 15 billion zloty (equivalent to over 4.2 billion USD), this is a strategic step aimed at strengthening the country's air defense capabilities against airborne threats.

Integrated multi-layered defense network

The new defense system is designed on a multi-layered model, combining various advanced technologies to create a comprehensive protection network. The system's structure includes long-range surveillance radar stations, modern electronic jamming equipment, and a firepower system comprising machine guns and small-caliber missiles.

This network is capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at various altitudes and distances. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk asserted that currently, no other anti-drone system in Europe has achieved the same level of integration and intelligence as this project.

International cooperation and capacity building

The Polish Defence Procurement Agency awarded the project to a consortium between the state-owned defence corporation Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. The Norwegian company's share of the contract is estimated at approximately 16 billion Norwegian kroner (nearly $1.7 billion).

To meet equipment supply demands, Kongsberg plans to expand its production capacity in Poland. This collaboration will not only bring advanced technology but also boost the domestic defense industry. The project is expected to be completed within the next two years.

Financial resources from the European Union.

The "Drone Wall" project will be partially financed through the European Union's (EU) SAFE defense loan program. Under the plan, Poland is expected to receive approximately 44 billion euros, making it the largest beneficiary of the EU's total 150 billion euro defense support package.

The significant investment in drone defense systems is taking place amidst rising regional security tensions. Military analysts believe this is an inevitable trend as European nations prioritize protecting critical infrastructure from modern unmanned warfare methods.
