Following the Republican candidate's victory in the US presidential election, it is possible that the leader of France's opposition National Front, Marine Le Pen, will repeat Donald Trump's success, The New York Times writes.

According to The New York Times, right-wing parties are becoming more popular in Europe, as the billionaire's election fundamentally alters the global political landscape. "This shows that when people really want something, they can achieve it… When people want to take their destiny into their own hands, they can do it, despite ongoing smear campaigns," The New York Times quoted Le Pen as saying. French political circles this week unanimously agreed that the latest news from the United States has given a fresh impetus to advance the National Front's political agenda, the author notes.

However, experts are skeptical that Le Pen's path to the presidency is straightforward. In France, supporters of both the left and the right often band together to oppose far-right candidates in the final round of elections. Furthermore, the resources of the National Front leader are no match for Trump's.

"Le Pen is the candidate of a party on the fringes of the system. Trump is the Republican candidate," said Jean-Yves Camus, an expert on far-right trends in Europe. However, Le Pen does not lack supporters — the National Front party is in power in 11 French cities, where it enjoys unconditional popular support, the article states.

"Many French people have been victims of globalization and immigration. Therefore, we need to change our policies, and only Marine Le Pen can deal with that…" — Jean-Yves Camus emphasized.
