A cramped house and a grandmother's dying wish.

The house where the grandmother and her two grandchildren live is dilapidated after years of neglect. Mrs. Ho Thi Dinh is over 80 years old this year. Her back is hunched, and her steps have slowed with age, but her daughter and grandchildren still depend on her for all their daily needs. Every morning, she quietly goes to the garden, ties up bundles of vegetables to sell at the market, carefully saving every penny to provide meals for each day.

What worries her most is not her own old age or illness, but the future of her children and grandchildren if one day she is no longer strong enough to support them. She only hopes that before she passes away, she can rebuild a more solid house, so that her daughter and grandchildren will have a safe place to live, no longer living in constant fear whenever the rain and wind come.

At this time, a roof over one's head is not simply a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but the ultimate refuge for the entire family.

The fragile light of a child

Over 20 years ago, Nguyen Thi Hoan, Mrs. Dinh's daughter, began losing her eyesight when she turned 18. From faint white streaks in her eyes, the light gradually faded away over time. When she could no longer see, she fell into despair, then learned to live with the darkness.

At the age of 22, she left her hometown to make a living with her friends, trying to support herself by selling toothpicks. However, during a trip far from home, due to poor eyesight, she was taken advantage of by a criminal. Returning home pregnant, she chose to stay with her elderly mother, gave birth, and quietly became a mother in the shadows.

The arrival of baby Linh Chy was once the greatest hope in her life. The child's birth brought joy and the longing to see her grow day by day. However, when unusual white streaks appeared in the baby's eyes, worry once again cast a shadow over their small home.

The family took the child to the doctor. The doctor said that this could be a congenital eye condition and that intervention would only be effective for a certain period. If the intervention is delayed, the chances of recovery will be very limited. Time is therefore more precious than ever.

Meanwhile, the family's entire income depends on a small garden and the strength of the elderly grandmother. Rebuilding the house to ensure safe living conditions and taking the child for specialized medical examinations and interventions is beyond the means of the three of them.

Local authorities have confirmed that Mrs. Dinh's family is in extremely difficult circumstances and urgently needs community support to provide the three of them with a more stable home, and to ensure that Linh Chy's eyesight is not left unaddressed while time still allows.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen, head of Thanh Cong village, said that Ms. Dinh currently lives with her daughter Nguyen Thi Hoan and granddaughter Linh Chy; her other children are also ill and struggling financially, so they cannot help their elderly mother. "Her situation is truly heartbreaking. At this age, she should be resting, but she still has to shoulder the burden of being a support for her children and grandchildren," Ms. Duyen shared.

Amidst these overwhelming difficulties, what the family needs right now is not just empathy, but a concrete opportunity to change their reality.

The grandmother and her two children didn't wish for anything grand. The grandmother only hoped for a sturdy roof over her head so she wouldn't have to worry every rainy season, and the mother only hoped her child would still have a chance to see the light while there was still time for intervention.
