Regarding this direct admission plan, for the past three weeks, information has circulated in Vinh City that there are 46 students with B2 certificates throughout the city. However, according to a summary from Dang Thai Mai Secondary School, only 5 B2 students have registered for direct admission to the school so far.
The B2 certificate is one of the certificates from the Cambridge Examination Board, equivalent to the upper-intermediate level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
To achieve a B2 certificate, learners need to be able to use their English for everyday correspondence, paperwork, and telephone communication, and to understand some non-academic training courses, textbooks, and simple articles.
According to regulations, this is also one of the necessary qualifications for English teachers at the lower secondary level.
A representative from an English language center in Vinh City, directly involved in this rumor, also issued an official statement confirming that "the rumors about a list of 46 fifth-grade students achieving the B2 international certificate after taking the Cambridge exam at the center" are false.
In fact, during the Cambridge exam in March 2022 (which was also the only exam of the year so far), the center did not have any candidates registering for the B2 exam. Of the 30 students taking the B1 exam, only 2 were primary school students.
