Once, after examining a little girl named Minh Anh who lives in Binh Thuan and did not return for her scheduled appointment, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh posted on Facebook asking her family to be informed of the surgery request. Two hours later, the family received news.

Baby Minh Anh was born with a congenital defect of having all her fingers and toes fused together, almost without fingers. Once, she went with a charity group to Saigon ITO Hospital for examination.Having treated hundreds of children with hand deformities, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, said that this child's case of syndactyly was very special. The baby has all 5 fingers fused, not only the soft tissue like other children but also the bone, so the surgery is very complicated. The longer you wait, the more disadvantageous it will be, so the baby needs early intervention. The cost for the first surgery will be about 40 million VND.

Many months passed after that visit, but the girl was still missing, despite the doctor's deliberate waiting every day.Afraid that the family is afraid of the high cost and cannot afford surgeryfor the girl, doctor Xuan Anh tried to find a way to contact the family. He posted an advertisement to find the girl on his personal page, asking the online community to spread the word to the girl's acquaintances and relatives.Doctor Anh proactively offered to perform a charity surgery so that the child could have surgery soon, recover quickly, and go to school with friends. After only nearly 2 hours of sharing information on Facebook, the doctor and the family were able to connect. Minh Anh is expected to go to Ho Chi Minh City to carry out the surgery plan next week.

Still speaking in her native Quang Binh accent after 14 years of living in Binh Thuan, mother Pham Thi Loan said that when Bui Ha Minh Anh was born in 2009, she fainted when she saw her child's incomplete body. Both hands and feet were severely deformed, with almost no fingers. During her first years of life, she suffered from multiple deformities, cleft palate, bulging eyes, and was as skinny and dark as an old woman. Loan and her husband, a bricklayer, tried to find charity organizations to treat her, but luck still did not come to their unfortunate daughter.

Always trying to be able to eat with a spoon and be independent in many things, Minh Anh often cried in helplessness. "Many times, she painfully asked why her mother gave birth to her like that, why she didn't use a knife to cut off her arms and legs to cure her illness," the 40-year-old mother choked.Minh Anh is Loan's third daughter. Her two older brothers are in 6th and 8th grade this year.

When she was at school age, Minh Anh was eager to go to school and tried very hard for fear of not being accepted into the class. She had difficulty walking, and every time she held a pen between her hands, sweat poured out and soaked her notebook, but she still did not give up. She could overcome single words, but some compound letters were always a challenge during writing practice.

The mother said that the last few times she went to the doctor, she was very afraid of the doctor and asked her mother to operate on only one hand so she could hold a pen. The last time she met Dr. Xuan Anh, after the consultation, the child was very happy. On the way home, she kept hugging and kissing her parents, excitedly saying that she was about to have surgery so she could go to school."When I got home, I had to wait for a long time. My child kept asking me impatiently. I had to coax him to wait for me to earn money. When the doctor contacted me again, I counted the days until next week for surgery," Loan shared.

According to Dr. Anh, this surgery will separate the thumb and little finger of the child's two hands. The estimated surgery time is about 3 hours. The wound healing time is 3-4 weeks. Minh Anh can go to school and practice writing 3 weeks after the surgery. The complicated problem in the surgery is that the blood vessels that nourish the finger may have anatomical abnormalities. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully find and separate to protect the blood vessels that nourish the finger when separating the finger, the risk of finger necrosis after separation is very high.

"In this first surgery, if the costs from charity groups and sponsors are not enough to cover, we will try to arrange additional mobilization. Babystill have to go through some surgery to perfect everything", Dr. Xuan Anh shared.
