A doctor from Nghe An donated blood to save the life of a pregnant woman from Laos.

(Baonghean.vn) - News from Xieng Khouang Provincial General Hospital (Laos) indicates that, with professional support and the compassionate blood donations from doctors of Nghe An General Hospital who were seconded to provide professional assistance there, a Laotian woman in critical condition due to uterine atony and postpartum hemorrhage has been saved.

At 12 noon on July 18th, pregnant woman Keo (26 years old) was transferred from the district hospital to the Xieng Khouang Provincial General Hospital (Laos) for emergency treatment with a diagnosis of prolonged labor for her second child; her cervix had been fully dilated for over 4 hours but she was unable to give birth naturally.

The patient was immediately transferred to the emergency operating room. Obstetrician Vo Ta Trung and anesthesiologist Tran Huu Hieu, along with doctors from Xieng Khouang Provincial General Hospital, quickly performed a cesarean section to save the fetus. The 3.3 kg newborn was delivered in time, its life saved after initial resuscitation.

Following the cesarean section, Ms. Keo was transferred to the post-operative monitoring ward. At 4 PM that same day, the patient developed uterine atony and postpartum hemorrhage. The medical team at Nghe An General Hospital urgently transferred Ms. Keo back to the operating room to perform a low partial hysterectomy to control the bleeding.

Despite surgical intervention to control the bleeding, the patient lost a significant amount of blood, leading to a clotting disorder that made it difficult to stop the bleeding. To ensure the patient's survival, an urgent blood transfusion was needed to replenish lost blood and promote clotting. However, the hospital could only mobilize one unit of blood type A, which matched the patient's blood type.

Without hesitation, at nearly 10 PM, three doctors from Nghe An General Hospital volunteered to donate blood to save a life. Fortunately, Dr. Phan Sy Thai had the same blood type as the pregnant woman, Keo. Thirty minutes later, the precious fresh blood from the Vietnamese doctor was quickly transfused into her body, contributing to saving Keo's life from a critical condition.
