The Mong ethnic minority community of Luu Thong is proud to have another young female Party member.
With the arrival of spring, the Mong ethnic minority village of Luu Thong (Luu Kien commune, Tuong Duong district) has a new reason for celebration: After nearly 20 years, the village Party branch has admitted a young female Party member. She is Vu Thi Thu Trang (born in 2000), a graduate of the Law Faculty at Vinh University.

Proud to be a party member.
Leading us into her house nestled in a small alley surrounded by lush green vegetable gardens, Vu Y Do, the Party Secretary of Luu Thong village – the first female Mong Party member in Luu Kien commune and Tuong Duong district – excitedly spoke about the village Party branch's admission of Vu Thi Thu Trang into the Party: "It's been a long time since the village had a new female Party member, we're so happy!"

Our first impression of Vu Thi Thu Trang was that she was a strong-willed, pretty, and straightforward girl. “Being cared for by the Party and the State, and having my parents provide me with opportunities to study and acquire knowledge, is a great happiness and good fortune for me. This opens up many opportunities for young people from ethnic minorities like me in the future,” Vu Thi Thu Trang confided.

Born and raised in a Hmong village in Luu Kien commune, where some people still hold the belief that "girls don't need much education, just enough to write their own names, then get married, have children, and work diligently in the fields," Vu Thi Thu Trang's parents, however, had progressive ideas and encouraged their children to pursue a proper education. The young woman herself always believed: "Women who are educated, have jobs, and earn an income have equality and deserve respect and love."

Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Vu Thi Thu Trang always strived for excellent results during her time at the Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School. Her efforts paid off when she passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Law (Vinh University). Trang is one of the few young Mong women in Luu Thong to attend university, making the entire village happy and proud.
"I chose to study Law because I want to use my knowledge and understanding of the law to educate the local people, including women, and contribute to building a progressive and civilized community. I also want people to understand that the backs of Hmong women now carry not only corn and cassava but also the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws," the young woman expressed.

With excellent academic achievements, exemplary conduct, and active participation in school activities, Vu Thi Thu Trang was selected to attend a Party membership training course at Vinh University.
In 2022, after graduating from university with honors, the young woman returned to her hometown. While waiting for a suitable job, she applied to work as an employee for a courier company and later worked at the Xiangyang County Post Office.
Trang also actively participated in activities in the village and was mentored by the female Party Branch Secretary Vu Y Do, and was admitted to the Party in May 2023, becoming a full Party member in May 2024.

The moment of standing under the party flag and reciting the oath is a memorable milestone and also a motivation for this Hmong girl in Luu Thong village to be even more determined on her journey of aspiring to contribute to society.
"Becoming a Party member is a milestone in my life, and I am very happy to have followed in my father's footsteps – a Party member in the Public Security force – and joined the ranks of the Party," Vu Thi Thu Trang expressed.

Speaking with us, Mrs. Vu Y Xu, mother of Vu Thi Thu Trang, said: "Trang is the eldest child, followed by a younger brother. From a young age, Trang has been very studious, determined to pursue her education to broaden her knowledge and have a better future. Her joining the Party makes the family very proud and happy!"
According to Luu Van Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Luu Kien commune, many years ago, when Ms. Vu Y Do (from Ky Son district who married into Luu Thong village) joined the Party and later became the Party Branch Secretary, it was considered a major innovation for the Mong people here.

Vu Thi Thu Trang also shared that Party Branch Secretary Vu Y Do is a shining example of overcoming difficulties and striving for success, inspiring young women like herself to learn from and emulate him.
According to the head of Luu Thong village, Tho Ba Cho,Selecting female candidates to train and recruit into the Party, helping them and the community understand that "women are equal to men," is not easy. This is because prejudices are deeply ingrained in the thinking of some people, along with a mentality of complacency, inferiority complex, and a lack of ambition that still exists among women themselves...
Therefore, the fact that the village Party branch has admitted a young female Party member with a university degree like Vu Thi Thu Trang is a great joy, inspiring the younger generation of the locality to strive, train, and join the ranks of the Party, especially young women.

Contributing to the development of the village.
After a heartwarming and sincere conversation at the community cultural center, we followed young Party member Vu Thi Thu Trang and officials from Luu Thong village to visit the clean, well-maintained concrete roads and the lush vegetable gardens, banana plantations, cassava fields, and corn fields surrounding the village.

As she walked, the young female Party member from Luu Thong village proudly introduced: "The people of my village have changed their way of thinking and working in production, striving to build a prosperous life."
In particular, the women in the village are at the forefront of models such as growing bananas for leaves, cultivating vegetables, and sorting and processing waste at the source.

Vu Thi Thu Trang added that she is always highly aware of the responsibility of setting an example as a Party member in all movements and activities of the village, from maintaining environmental hygiene and landscape to propagating and mobilizing people, especially young people in the village, to participate in the vibrant activities of the Club for Preserving and Promoting the Cultural Identity of the Mong ethnic group (singing Cu Xia songs, playing the khene and flute, making musical instruments, embroidery, sewing traditional costumes...).

Vu Thi Thu Trang also expressed her concern that currently, the Luu Thong village Party branch has 14 members, but only 3 are female, including two local members and one who is a cadre from Luu Kien commune (of the Thai ethnic group) assigned to participate in activities.
She is committed to working with the Party committee and Party members in the branch to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts so that the younger generation in the village, especially young women, will become aware of and strive to join the Party; boldly participate in social work, and affirm their role and position in the family and community.

At the age of 24, like Vu Thi Thu Trang, many Hmong women already have children, but when asked about marriage and children, the young woman confidently smiles and says, "No rush! I still have many plans to accomplish. A stable job is essential for a happy family!"
