Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for selling drugs on behalf of others.
When someone placed an order for drugs, Luong Van Dung went to find a buyer. After the seller promised him money, Dung delivered the drugs to the customer but was caught red-handed by the police.
On November 22, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court held a first-instance trial to hear the case against defendant Luong Van Dung (born in 1961), residing in Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district, for the crime of "illegally trading narcotics".
According to the indictment, around the beginning of June 2024, a man named Cong (whose identity and background are unknown) contacted Luong Van Dung to order 20 packets of methamphetamine and one block of heroin. Dung agreed and arranged to contact him when the "goods" were available.
Later, Dung called Sam Van Phuc to discuss a customer's order for drugs. Phuc quoted a price of 72 million VND for 20 packets of methamphetamine and one stick of heroin, promising Dung 200,000 VND for each packet of methamphetamine and 2 million VND for each stick of heroin.
At noon on June 9th, Phuc gave the drugs to Dung. At this time, Dung contacted Cong to inform him that he had the "goods" and arranged to deliver the drugs the following day.
Early the next morning, Dung took all the drugs to deliver to Cong. However, when he arrived at the Ba Cong hill area in Chau Hoan commune, Quy Chau district, he was arrested by the police along with the evidence, which consisted of over 432 grams of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime, stating that he committed it out of greed. He confessed that he was arrested before he could benefit from the crime.
The defendant expressed remorse and presented his difficult circumstances, including having many children and being a member of an ethnic minority group, in order to request the court to consider mitigating circumstances and reduce his sentence.
Considering the defendant's actions violated the law, the court sentenced Luong Van Dung to 20 years in prison for the crime of "Buyingillegal sale of narcotics"Regarding Sam Van Phuc, since the defendant's identity and background are unknown, there is no basis for investigation or prosecution."
