Category 8 storm heading towards Thanh Hoa - Quang Binh
Typhoon No. 4 in the East Sea is expected to be 210 km from the coast of Thanh Hoa - Quang Binh on July 25th.

According to the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting Center, the tropical depression strengthened into the fourth typhoon of the year this afternoon, with the international name Sonca.
At 1 PM on July 23rd, the storm was located approximately 140 km southeast of Hainan Island (China), with maximum wind speeds of 75 km/h (level 8).Moving westward at a speed of only 5 km/h, on July 24th, Sonca was located in the sea south of Hainan Island (China), with unchanged wind intensity.

Subsequently, the storm moved west-northwest at a speed of 10 km/h, and by the afternoon of July 25th, it was located off the coast of Thanh Hoa - Quang Binh.Approximately 210 km to the east-southeast, with maximum wind speeds still at level 8.
The area is dangerous for ships.From latitude 16.5 to 20.5 degrees; west longitude 113 degrees.

The storm's circulation will bring heavy rain to provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue starting July 25th. At sea,The central and southern areas of the South China Sea (including the waters around the Spratly Islands), and the sea area from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau will experience showers and thunderstorms.
According to the provincial search and rescue command centers, as of this morning, authorities have informed and guided more than 32,000 vehicles with over 150,000 people about the development of the tropical depression strengthening into a storm.
Sonca is the fourth typhoon to appear in the East Sea this year. Of these, typhoons No. 1 and No. 3 have already entered China; while typhoon No. 2, Talas, directly affected the Vietnamese mainland. According to the meteorological agency, the 2017 typhoon season will see approximately 13-15 typhoons and tropical depressions active in the East Sea. About 3-4 of these will make landfall and directly affect the Vietnamese mainland, mainly in the Central region.
