(Baonghean.vn) - The Head of the Propaganda Department of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee requested that media agencies closely adhere to the propaganda guidelines, accurately and fully reflect practical socio-economic issues of the locality, and at the same time strengthen the fight against distorted narratives and false information.

On the morning of August 8th, the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department held its regular monthly press briefing for July 2016.

In July, the press agencies followed the correct propaganda guidelines, reflecting relatively fully and promptly the main political, economic, cultural, and social events; providing comprehensive information on important domestic and foreign activities of Party and State leaders; and the policies and operational directives of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial People's Council, and various departments, agencies, and localities.

Accordingly, the prominent activities that received attention included: the first session of the 14th National Assembly; provincial People's Council representatives meeting with voters in localities; the second session of the 17th Provincial People's Council; the 86th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th; extensive propaganda on Party building; outstanding results in the province's socio-economic development in the first seven months of the year; and encouragement of labor and production emulation movements, etc.

In addition, newspapers and television stations have also focused on reflecting quite clearly the emerging and existing problems in the province over the past period, such as: warnings about illegal logging; inadequacies in the management of rural electricity grids; issues of ensuring fire safety at markets; safety hazards at ferry terminals and swimming pools in the area, etc.

In August 2016, media outlets continued to widely disseminate and promote the Resolution and action program implementing the Resolution of the 12th National Congress of the Party; reflect the vibrant atmosphere in localities in implementing the resolutions of Party congresses at all levels into practical life; and publicize the results of the 2nd session of the Provincial People's Council for the 2016-2021 term and the mid-year sessions of the People's Councils at the district and commune levels, focusing on publicizing newly adopted policies.

Comrade Ho Thi Ngan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nghe An Newspaper, believes that information needs to be more strictly controlled to avoid the current situation of widespread and multi-faceted information.

Press agencies need to intensify their efforts in publicizing land clearance for key projects, rural development, poverty reduction, and the affirmation of maritime sovereignty and development, encouraging fishermen to go out to sea and maintain their livelihoods. At the same time, they should combat and refute distorted and hostile narratives on the Internet.

At the meeting, representatives from various media agencies in the province offered numerous comments and contributions regarding journalistic activities over the past period. The opinions generally agreed with the report summarizing journalistic activities in the province for July 2016.

Comrade Tran Duy Ngoan, Chairman of the Provincial Journalists Association, believes that online platforms need to censor information more carefully.

Other issues discussed by delegates included: the need for stricter information control to avoid the current situation of widespread and multi-faceted information that causes public "information overload"; the need for more thorough verification and censorship of information published on websites; the need for the state to actively intervene in information management, strictly handle copyright infringement, strengthen public opinion guidance, and combat reactionary and opportunistic information flows, etc.
