According to the newspaper, President Putin is still providing military support to Mr. Assad's regime, including deploying Russian infantry to this Middle Eastern country.
At least two Russian soldiers have been killed during their deployment in Syria. They were part of a special forces unit of the GRU military intelligence agency, specifically the 22nd Special Forces Brigade stationed near Rostow on the Don River in Russia.
In addition to supporting the Assad regime with airstrikes, Russia also provides troop transport and artillery support. Moscow has sent Ilyushin heavy military transport aircraft and Mi-24 combat helicopters to Syria, while also strengthening Syria's combat capabilities with Msta-B artillery from Russia's 120th Artillery Brigade, a unit based in Siberia./.
