According to the report, President Putin is still providing military support to the Assad regime, including deploying Russian ground troops to the Middle Eastern country.
At least two Russian soldiers have been killed during their deployment in Syria. These two belonged to a special forces unit of the GRU military intelligence agency, specifically the 22nd Special Forces Brigade stationed near Rostow on the Don River in Russia.
In addition to supporting the Assad regime with airstrikes, Russia has also provided troop and artillery support. Moscow has deployed heavy Ilyushin military transport aircraft and Mi-24 combat helicopters to Syria, and has also reinforced Syria's combat capabilities with Msta-B artillery from Russia's 120th Artillery Brigade, a unit based in Siberia.
