(Baonghean.vn) - Die Welt (Germany) newspaper said that Prime Minister Scholz's cautious policy has affected the morale of the Ukrainian people. Ukrainian conscripts do not want to continue fighting and sacrificing in a conflict they cannot win.

According to RT on May 8, Die Welt newspaper reported that Ukraine is running out of soldiers and morale is low. Without Germany’s Taurus long-range missiles, young Ukrainian soldiers do not want to sacrifice themselves in a conflict they cannot win.

In an effort to recruit soldiers, President Zelensky has just lowered the military age to 25. Any man between the ages of 25 and 60 can "suddenly fall into the hands of military recruiters".

In November 2023, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, said that the Ukrainian army needed about 500,000 more soldiers. However, since then, the situation has become increasingly desperate.

According to Die Welt, Ukrainian conscripts do not want to go to the front. On the border with Romania alone, in the past few months, Ukrainian authorities have arrested more than 6,000 people trying to avoid military service.

Die Welt said there was every indication that the "late" debate in the US Congress and Germany's indecision had damaged Ukraine's morale.

"It must be noted that we must respect the fact that fewer and fewer people want to end up in a war that seems unwinnable," commented Die Welt.

Die Welt also said that Ukraine's armed forces still lack air superiority. Although the German government has recently doubled its military assistance to Ukraine, it has not provided weapons that could really make a difference. "Countless Ukrainians are now paying for Germany's policies with their lives," Die Welt said./.
