Social insurance agency speaks out about electronic health insurance cards displaying expiration dates.
Social insurance authorities affirm that the health insurance cards of pensioners are automatically renewed by the system, requiring no fees or procedures, while also warning of increasing fraud.
Many people are worried because their health insurance card shows an expiration date.
Recently, many retirees have been concerned about their health insurance cards showing an expiration date of December 31st on the VNeID application. According to the social insurance agency, this is merely a technical system error. Pensioners' cards are automatically renewed annually, so their healthcare benefits are not interrupted and no additional fees need to be paid.
Hanoi Social Insurance announced that pensioners are issued free health insurance cards and that the fund covers 95% of their medical examination and treatment costs as per regulations.
From June 1st, the social insurance sector will stop issuing paper health insurance cards and switch entirely to electronic health insurance cards via VssID, VNeID, or chip-embedded citizen identity cards. Paper cards that are still valid will continue to be used until their expiration date.
The shift to electronic forms has made things more convenient for people, but many are not yet familiar with them, making them vulnerable to exploitation by malicious individuals.

Warning about scammers impersonating social insurance employees.
Recently, there have been cases of individuals posing as social insurance officials, calling to request "card renewal," asking for citizen identification numbers, requesting bank account details, or instructing users to install applications in order to steal money.
Hanoi Social Insurance Agency affirms that it does not call, text, send links, or QR codes requesting people to provide personal information. All data updates are done directly at the Social Insurance agency or through official channels.
People are advised not to provide OTP codes or passwords, not to click on suspicious links, and not to interact with unverified Zalo accounts.
