According to Israel Defense, to gain air superiority, Vietnam will purchase at least two C-295 AEW&C early warning and control aircraft.
| Along with Israeli press, international media recently published images of the Vietnamese military delegation visiting the C-295 AEW&C aircraft. This is considered a positive sign to promote the negotiation and transfer process between Vietnam and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a defense industry company of Israel. |
| In a statement to the media in June 2014, Antonio Rodríguez Barberán, Director of Airbus DS (a subsidiary of the European aerospace group Airbus), officially revealed that Ecuador and Vietnam were two of many new customers who had ordered three Airbus DS C-295 transport aircraft each. |
| Although Mr. Barberán did not disclose the delivery date of the first C-295 aircraft to the Vietnamese Air Force, Ecuador's second C-295, along with the first one for Vietnam, is currently in the final stages of assembly. |
| Meanwhile, Russia's Independent newspaper suggests that, given the need to modernize its air force in the near future, Vietnam will purchase at least two airborne early warning aircraft, with the CASA C-295 being one of the leading candidates. |
| This aircraft will be equipped with electronic systems that are compatible with the DHC-6 Twin Otter seaplane of the Vietnam Naval Air Force, creating an integrated surveillance and early warning network for both air and sea use, thereby enhancing the combat readiness of our military. |
| Regarding the necessity of the C-295 AEW&C for the Vietnamese Navy, military experts believe that to gain air superiority, Vietnam must necessarily purchase C-295 AEW&C aircraft or those with similar capabilities. |
| Accordingly, the Vietnamese Army has initially developed diverse combat capabilities with modern weapons such as: Su-30MK2 aircraft, Molniya high-speed missile boats, Gepard missile frigates, Kilo 636 submarines, Bastion-P coastal missiles, etc. |
| However, we still lack a means of linking modern weapon systems and an extension of our operations, which is early warning aircraft. |
| Early warning aircraft play a coordinating role with aircraft and warships, helping to detect targets from a distance, guide missiles, and extend the combat range of weapons. In addition, early warning aircraft act as intermediaries, linking and coordinating the operations of various types of weapons. |
| Furthermore, according to analysts, this type of aircraft uses the airframe of the C-295 transport aircraft, which will help minimize maintenance costs as well as pilot and mechanic training costs. |
| Furthermore, ELTA's radar can be linked with Russian-made weapons systems that Vietnam possesses, as Israel has extensive experience in weapon upgrades and supplying radar systems for early warning aircraft to India (a country that uses many Russian-made aircraft). Therefore, the C-295 AEW&C is considered the optimal solution for Vietnam's needs. |
