Refuting rumors on social media about Typhoon No. 12 appearing after Typhoon Matmo (Typhoon No. 11), the Meteorological Agency confirmed that there is no Typhoon No. 12 in the East Sea.

Typhoon No. 12 has not yet been recorded in the East Sea.

At a press conference on October 6th, Mr. Hoang Duc Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, stated that Typhoon Ha Long is currently active in the Northwest Pacific region, but is unlikely to enter the East Sea. This is the 22nd typhoon to form in this area since the beginning of the season.

According to forecasts from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), in the next few days, Typhoon Ha Long will move eastward, towards the sea southeast of Japan, and then gradually weaken, having no impact on the Vietnamese mainland.

Following rumors circulating on social media about Typhoon No. 12 appearing after Typhoon Matmo (Typhoon No. 11), the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology affirms that currently, only Typhoon No. 11 has been recorded in the East Sea. The conditions for the formation of tropical cyclones at this time are not suitable for the appearance of another typhoon.

Mr. Cuong stated that there is a possibility of Typhoon No. 12 appearing in the near future, but certainly not at the present time.

The meteorological sector is closely monitoring developments in the seas east of the Philippines and southern China to detect dangerous weather systems early.

Forecast of rain and storms from now until the end of the year.

According to forecasts, the ENSO phenomenon remains in a neutral state with a slight tendency towards the cold phase, but not strong enough to transition to a La Nina cycle. Under these conditions, from now until the end of 2025, the South China Sea may experience 4-5 typhoons or tropical depressions, of which 2-3 are likely to directly affect Vietnam, higher than the multi-year average.

Experts warn that people living in coastal and mountainous areas of northern Vietnam need to proactively take precautions against heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides that may occur as the typhoon season draws to a close.
