Typhoon No. 6 is approaching the mainland, expected to make landfall in Ha Tinh and Quang Tri at 7 PM tonight.
Typhoon No. 6 is approaching very rapidly. It is forecast to make landfall in Ha Tinh and Quang Tri provinces this evening, causing gusts of wind up to level 11, rough seas, and heavy rain throughout Central Vietnam.
The eye of the storm is approaching the shore, and the sea is extremely rough.
From noon on August 30th, coastal areas from Nghe An to Quang Tri began experiencing increasingly strong winds, reaching level 6, gusting to level 8. Specifically, the coastal areas of Ha Tinh and northern Quang Tri experienced winds of level 6-7, near the storm's center reaching level 8, gusting to level 10.
The meteorological agency warns that the strongest winds will be concentrated between 3 PM and 7 PM, posing a risk of breaking tree branches, tearing off roofs, and causing significant damage to houses.
At 10:00 AM this morning, the storm's center was located over the sea off Ha Tinh - Quang Tri provinces, approximately 120km east of northern Quang Tri. The strongest winds near the storm's center reached level 8 (62-74 km/h), with gusts of level 10-11. The sea was extremely rough, posing a particular danger to ships, rafts, and aquaculture facilities.
The storm made landfall in the late afternoon and weakened into a tropical depression.
Forecasts indicate that this evening, the storm's center will enter the area from southern Ha Tinh to northern Quang Tri with wind speeds of level 7, near the storm's center level 8, gusting to levels 9-10. The storm is moving rapidly in a west-northwest direction at a speed of approximately 20 km/hour.
By 10 PM, the storm had weakened into a tropical depression over the Vietnam-Laos border area, then moved further into central Laos and gradually dissipated.
The impact of typhoon No. 6 caused many stations to record strong winds: Bach Long Vi (Hai Phong) recorded winds of level 7, gusting to level 9; Co To (Quang Ninh) recorded winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8; Con Co (Quang Tri) recorded winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.
Heavy rain has fallen in the area from Nghe An to Da Nang, with rainfall exceeding 170mm in many places, posing a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.
