Two fugitives were arrested after nine years on the run in Laos.
After nine years of hiding in Laos, two fugitives wanted for "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection and forest product management" have been successfully apprehended by the police of Tuong Duong district in coordination with other functional units.
Previously, on February 2, 2015, the Tuong Duong District Police issued Wanted Notice No. 01 against Lau Ba Va (born in 1986) and Wanted Notice No. 03 against Lau Ba Mua (born in 1990), both residing in Pha Lom village, Tam Hop commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection and forest product management".

Gathering information and clues, the police in Tuong Duong district determined that Lau Ba Va and Lau Ba Mua had fled to Laos. During their escape, the two suspects changed their names and frequently moved their hiding places, presenting themselves as kind and hardworking individuals.
Using a coordinated approach involving various investigative techniques, the district police determined that the two suspects would return to Vietnam via unofficial border crossings, hiding in deep forests and high mountains to avoid detection by authorities.
After a period of gathering evidence and conducting verification, under the direction of the Provincial Police leadership, at 9:11 PM on September 26, 2024, in Tam Hop commune, Tuong Duong district, the district police, in collaboration with the provincial police's professional department, successfully arrested Lau Ba Va while he was hiding in the forest.
Subsequently, at 1:18 AM on October 8, 2024, in the hilly area of Tien Tieu village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, the Tuong Duong District Police, in coordination with the Nam Can Border Guard Post (Ky Son district), successfully apprehended Lau Ba Mua while he was attempting to travel through the forest to visit relatives in Tuong Duong district.
Currently, the individuals involved are being processed by the Tuong Duong District Police in accordance with the law.
