At 11 a.m. the same day, the group went to Mr. Son's house in Nam Hong commune but did not meet him. Nien had the idea of ​​arresting Mr. Son's employee to pressure the "partner" of Hoa Binh Minh Company to pay the debt. At the warehouse of Tuan Thao Company in Dia village, Nam Hong commune, Nien and his accomplices discovered Mr. Nguyen Gia Phu (Mr. Son's brother-in-law) there, forced him into an Innova car, and took him to Nien's office at Hoa Binh Minh Company. On the way, Nien called Mr. Son to inform him that he had arrested Mr. Phu and threatened to force Mr. Son to pay the debt on December 15. Afraid that his sister-in-law would be in danger, Mr. Son made an appointment with Nien to pay the debt at 4:00 p.m. the same day.

Knowing that Mr. Phu was illegally detained by Nien's group, the victim's family reported to Dong Anh Police. Immediately afterwards, the Investigation Police Agency - Dong Anh District Police summoned Nien and 6 other related subjects including Hoang Manh Dung (born in 1993); Nguyen Van Canh (born in 1996); Nguyen Xuan Truong (born in 1997), all residing in Phu Ninh District, Phu Tho Province and Nguyen Tien Hung (born in 1991); Cao Thanh Binh (born in 1994); Nguyen Tien Dinh (born in 1994), all residing in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province and issued an emergency arrest warrant to clarify the act of illegal detention.
