Around November 2017, Bui Thi Hanh (born in 1971, residing in Zone 2, Quang Trung Ward, Uong Bi City) had a romantic relationship with Mr. LXT (born in 1975, residing in Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province) and gave him 10 million VND and one gold bar to invest in interest-bearing loans. After the relationship ended, Hanh demanded that her younger boyfriend return the money.
On March 29th, because Mr. T. had not paid, Hanh, along with Mr. Dinh Khac Huy (born in 1972) and his son Dinh Khac Hung (born in 1995, both residing in Zone 6, Bac Son Ward, Uong Bi City), went to Mr. T.'s rented room in Nam Khe Ward, Uong Bi City, abducted him, and took him to Hanh's house in Quang Trung Ward, Uong Bi City.
Here, the perpetrators forced Mr. T. to write a promissory note acknowledging a debt of 45 million VND and one gold bar, and demanded that Mr. T.'s family pay the money before they would release him.
Immediately after receiving the report from the victim's family, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Uong Bi City Police) promptly deployed forces to carry out verification and investigation measures.
At 12:15 PM on March 30th, in the Clock Tower area, Quang Trung Ward, Uong Bi City, while Bui Thi Hanh was receiving 12 million VND from Mr. T.'s family, she was caught red-handed by detectives from the Criminal Police Team of Uong Bi City Police. They also rescued Mr. T. and seized several items of evidence, including ropes and swords used to restrain him.
The Uong Bi City Police Investigation Agency has temporarily detained Bui Thi Hanh and is urgently pursuing the remaining two fugitives.
