Man impersonates police officer to scam coffee shop owner into making "COVID-19 test certificate".

On the evening of July 30, information from the Tan Khai town police, Hon Quan district, Binh Phuoc province said that they had arrested Nguyen Trung Hieu, born in 1991, a worker in Chon Thanh town, Chon Thanh district, to investigate the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property”.

According to records, at around 8:00 a.m. on July 21, Hieu went from Chon Thanh town to Tan Khai town, Hon Quan district to meet his lover.

While waiting for his girlfriend to arrive, Hieu stopped by a coffee shop in Ward 5, Tan Khai town to have a drink. Here, after chatting socially, taking advantage of the lack of information from the owner's family, Hieu admitted that he wasPolicedrug team in Chon Thanh and was assigned to be in charge of Tan Khai town. Afterwards, Hieu promised to make “SARS-CoV-2 test papers” for all members of the restaurant owner’s family to facilitate their passage through quarantine checkpoints in Minh Hung commune and Tan Khai town.

Once he had gained trust, Hieu borrowed 2 million VND from the restaurant owner’s family and made up a story to use as “grease money”. After that, he continued to call the restaurant owner to borrow another 3 million VND to transfer to his account but was unsuccessful.

On July 30, when Hieu returned to Tan Khai town, he was arrested by the town's police force.

Currently, Hieu has been handed over by Tan Khai town police to Hon Quan district police for further investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
