Suspect arrested for impersonating police officer to scam people into buying COVID-19 test results.
A man impersonated a police officer to scam a beverage shop owner into giving him "COVID-19 test certificates."
On the evening of July 30th, information from the Tan Khai Town Police Station, Hon Quan District, Binh Phuoc Province indicated that they had arrested Nguyen Trung Hieu, born in 1991, a worker in Chon Thanh Town, Chon Thanh District, to investigate his alleged involvement in "Fraudulent appropriation of property"
According to the records, at around 8:00 AM on July 21st, Hieu traveled from Chon Thanh town to Tan Khai town, Hon Quan district, to meet his girlfriend.
While waiting for his girlfriend, Hieu stopped at a coffee shop in Ward 5, Tan Khai town, to have a drink. There, after some small talk, taking advantage of the shop owner's lack of information, Hieu claimed to be...PoliceThe drug enforcement team was in Chơn Thành and was assigned to oversee the Tân Khai town area. Subsequently, Hiếu promised to provide "SARS-CoV-2 test certificates" for all members of the restaurant owner's family to facilitate their passage through quarantine checkpoints in Minh Hưng commune and Tân Khai town.

After gaining the owner's trust, Hieu borrowed 2 million VND from the owner's family and fabricated a story about going to work to cover "grease money." He then tried to borrow another 3 million VND from the owner's account, but was unsuccessful.
On July 30th, when Hieu returned to Tan Khai town, he was arrested by the town's police force.
Hieu has now been handed over by the Tan Khai Town Police to the Hon Quan District Police for further investigation and handling in accordance with the law.
