Fugitive arrested after receiving 37 citizens handed over by China.
On March 6th, at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate in Cao Loc district, the Immigration Management Department of the Lang Son Provincial Police, in coordination with the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Border Guard Station, received 37 Vietnamese citizens handed over by Chinese authorities. Among them was one wanted fugitive for theft.
These citizens have permanent residence registrations in various provinces and cities. Among them, 13 reside in Lang Son province. These are citizens who have overstayed their visas or had previously entered China illegally to seek employment, and were subsequently discovered and apprehended by Chinese authorities.
Officers from the Immigration Management Department of the Provincial Police verify backgrounds and gather information from citizens who illegally cross the border.
During the verification and acceptance process for Vietnamese citizens not granted residency abroad, the Immigration Management Department, in coordination with the Office of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Lang Son Provincial Police, discovered that Lo Van Thao (born in 1999) was a wanted fugitive by the Criminal Investigation Agency of Muong Ang District Police, Dien Bien Province, since 2019 for the crime of theft.
After committing the crime, Thao fled to China to work, but was later arrested by Chinese authorities and sentenced to 6 years in prison in Guangdong province for intentional infliction of injury. Now, after serving her sentence, she has been handed over to Vietnam by the Chinese police.
The Lang Son Provincial Police, in coordination with law enforcement agencies at the border gate, completed the necessary procedures and handed over the suspect to the Dien Bien Provincial Police Investigation Agency for handling according to the law.
