Fugitive arrested after 9 years on the run in Laos.
The Criminal Investigation Department of Tuong Duong District Police announced that they have apprehended Xong Ba O, a wanted fugitive, after he had been hiding in Laos for nine years.
Previously, the Tuong Duong District Police issued Wanted Notice No. 02 dated February 2, 2015, against Xong Ba O (born in 1990), residing in Pha Lom village, Tam Hop commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation, protection, and management of forest products".

For the past nine years, police detectives in Tuong Duong district have persistently gathered information and identified clues about Xong Ba O in order to apprehend the suspect.
Through investigative measures, the detectives obtained information that the suspect was hiding in Laos. To evade detection by authorities, the suspect changed his name, frequently changed his place of residence, and immediately fled into the forest upon spotting strangers.
After a period of gathering documents and conducting verification, under the direction of the Provincial Police leadership, on August 9, 2024, the Tuong Duong District Police, in coordination with the Provincial Police's professional departments, the Tam Hop Border Guard Post, and the Vieng Thong District Police of Bolikhamsai Province (Laos), successfully arrested Xong Ba O while he was traveling in Nam Giang town, Vieng Thong district, Bolikhamsai province.
The suspect has now been extradited to Vietnam. The police in Tuong Duong district are currently detaining him for investigation and legal processing.
