Man arrested for assaulting commune chairman who was running COVID-19 response.
On September 25, the police in Le Thuy district (Quang Binh province) announced that they had temporarily detained Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung (born in 1981), residing in Thuong Hai village, Ngu Thuy commune, for the act of "resisting public officials."
Earlier, on the morning of September 19th, Mr. Nguyen Huu Dinh - Deputy Head of the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee of Ngu Thuy commune - visited the commune's health station (Area I) to inspect the arrangements for receiving four citizens returning from epidemic areas for centralized quarantine.

While Mr. Dinh and others were inspecting the area, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung approached them with a machete, threatening them, insulting and offending them, and then pushed Mr. Dinh, causing him to fall against the stair railing.
After learning about the incident, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hien - Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune, along with members of the Steering Committee for epidemic prevention and control, went to the commune's health station to investigate the matter.
Several instances of disorderly gatherings have occurred here, with people requesting that authorities not send individuals to quarantine at the health station.
Despite Mr. Hien's explanation of the regulations and decisions of the competent authorities, these people still objected.
When Mr. Hien went to inspect the room where people were supposed to be brought for centralized quarantine, he was pushed and obstructed by several people.
At that moment, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung ran over, grabbed Mr. Hien's arm, pushed him out into the yard, and punched him in the face, causing him to bleed. After the incident, Mr. Hien was taken to Le Thuy General Hospital for treatment.
Upon receiving the report, the Le Thuy District Police arrived at the scene and seized the machete used by Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung. After gathering sufficient evidence, the investigating agency issued a decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung for temporary detention to investigate his actions."Resisting law enforcement officers."
