Seven individuals from the same hometown were arrested for illegal football betting and lottery/gambling.
The Quỳnh Lưu District Police have successfully dismantled a gambling ring operating in the form of football betting and lottery number trading, arresting seven suspects residing in the area.
On the morning of July 17th, the Quỳnh Lưu District Police (Nghe An province) deployed 5 task forces in coordination with the 373 armed patrol team to arrest Nguyen Van Dien and 6 other suspects in the case, including: Nguyen Van Tuan (born 1982), residing in An Hoa commune, Quỳnh Lưu district; Tran Van Tuan (born 1973), Ho Xuan Hung (born 1993), residing in Son Hai commune, Quỳnh Lưu district; Van Duc Thanh (born 1979) and Nguyen Canh Sinh (born 1974); and Ho Ngoc Van (born 1977), all residing in Quynh Tan commune, Quỳnh Lưu district. The seized items included 1 computer and 12 mobile phones.

Through investigation, the Quỳnh Lưu District Police have initially proven the amount of money.gambleThe amount on July 15th and 16th, 2024 was 326 million VND.
Previously, through intelligence gathering, around mid-June 2024, the Quỳnh Lưu District Police discovered a large-scale gambling ring. Taking advantage of the Euro 2024 football matches, the suspects organized online betting for gamblers, and also facilitated gambling in the form of buying and selling lottery numbers. The ringleader was Nguyễn Văn Diện (born in 1975), residing in Sơn Hải commune, Quỳnh Lưu district.

The perpetrators operate very sophisticatedly and cautiously, employing numerous tricks to evade law enforcement; they frequently change locations and communication methods, and all gambling transactions are conducted online via computers and smartphones, with no face-to-face transactions or individual bets accepted.
Currently, the Quỳnh Lưu District Police are holding the suspects in custody, completing the case file for prosecution and indictment according to regulations, and continuing to expand the investigation.
