Authorities arrested 990 suspects and seized nearly 1.8 tons of drugs.

On November 12, police in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China) announced that 990 suspects and nearly 1.8 tons of drugs had been seized in a joint crackdown operation between China and Vietnam, which lasted from September to November.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, the Sino-Vietnamese border is one of the busiest drug trafficking routes, with large quantities of heroin and other drugs circulating through the area.

According to Qiu Yucheng, Deputy Commander of the Anti-Drug Police Regiment of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, professional anti-drug teams have been deployed throughout counties and cities along the Sino-Vietnamese border, and counter-terrorism operations have been integrated into daily work.

The two countries have strengthened cooperation in investigating drug cases, sharing intelligence, and apprehending suspects.

This is the second joint anti-drug operation between Vietnam and China. In 2014, police from both countries arrested more than 3,800 suspects and seized 900 kg of drugs in a similar operation.
