On March 19, the Southern Special Criminal Investigation Team announced that their patrol team had handed over Nguyen Van Truong (28 years old) and Nguyen Hoang Dung (32 years old) to the Binh Tan District Police for handling according to their jurisdiction.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of March 18th. A patrol team from the Southern Criminal Investigation Unit (Criminal Investigation Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police) spotted a man and woman riding a motorbike around Binh Tan District with suspicious behavior. After discreetly observing them, the detectives concluded that the two were likely "looking for a victim"...

As expected, after driving around several streets, upon reaching 01 Ho Van Long Street, Tan Tao Ward, Binh Tan District, the two men spotted Ms. N (34 years old) stopped at the traffic light... At this point, the man driving the vehicle approached her, then pretended to have a minor collision with Ms. N's car in order to stage a crime.

The man named Truong began to distract Ms. N with talk of right and wrong, causing her to lose focus and vigilance, allowing the female accomplice, Hoang Dung, sitting behind him, to quickly snatch Ms. N's iPhone 6 Plus. Having successfully stolen the phone, Dung swiftly climbed onto her accomplice's motorbike and sped away. However, these actions did not escape the watchful eyes of the investigative team...

“It was around 5 PM. Because the area and the time of the theft coincided with rush hour, with many workers from nearby industrial zones leaving work, the investigation team didn't pursue them immediately. If they had pursued them, both would certainly have risked their lives to escape, endangering many workers in the surrounding area. Human lives are the most important thing. Therefore, we only officially launched the raid and arrest them when we reached National Highway 1A, a wider road,” a detective recalled.

Upon reaching the highway, they realized they were being pursued by the Special Task Force, so they frantically sped away at breakneck speed. During the chase, the two continuously swerved and weaved through numerous high-speed vehicles, causing truck drivers to have several heart-stopping moments because of the pair.

After a breathtaking 30-minute chase on the highway, at times reaching speeds of 120 km/h, near the Go May intersection in Binh Tan District, the patrol team cornered the vehicle, apprehended both suspects, and seized the evidence and vehicle.

At the police station, the two men identified themselves as Nguyen Van Truong (28 years old; residing in Cu Chi) and Nguyen Hoang Dung (32 years old; residing in District 6). Both are heavy drug addicts and have multiple previous convictions for theft, using the tactic of staging traffic accidents to pickpocket.
