Suspect arrested in Nghe An for 'kidnapping a person under 16'

Accordingly, on the morning of August 28, 2024, due to a personal conflict, Vu Van Tung brought a knife to the private residence of Ms. Nong Thi T. (born in 2005) in Lang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district. The suspect acted extremely aggressively and recklessly, breaking through the glass door and entering the house, holding a knife to Ms. T.'s neck to restrain and force her to comply with his demands.

Terrified, Ms. T. grabbed her young child and ran out of the house, but the perpetrator chased after her, snatched the child, and sped away on his motorbike.

Immediately after receiving the report, the Yen Thanh District Police quickly formed two task forces, directly going to the scene to conduct an investigation, arrest the suspect, and rescue the victim. One task force went directly to Ms. Nong Thi T.'s family to offer support and stabilize their emotions; at the same time, they implemented professional measures, took statements from the victim and witnesses, and examined the crime scene. The other team directly reviewed and extracted camera footage, and tracked down and apprehended the suspect.

After being directly intervened and persuaded by the district police force, Vu Van Tung returned the child to Ms. Nong Thi T. at the bee farm area in Trung Nam hamlet, Quang Thanh commune.

The suspect then continued to evade capture. Through coordinated investigative measures, later that same day, the Yen Thanh District Police successfully apprehended Vu Van Tung while he was hiding on Khe Vang hill, in Trung Nam hamlet, Quang Thanh commune.

At the investigative agency, Vu Van Tung admitted his wrongdoing and confessed that he kidnapped the child to pressure Ms. Nong Thi T. because she refused his request.

Currently, the Yen Thanh District Police investigation agency is completing the procedures to initiate criminal proceedings and indict Vu Van Tung for the crime of "kidnapping a person under 16 years of age".
