Authorities arrest suspect who used a machete to injure two commune police officers.
Tran Hoang Dieu (from Quang Tri province) was arrested after injuring two local police officers who were on duty with a knife.
On July 30, the Quang Tri Provincial Police announced that they had detained Tran Hoang Dieu (born in 1981, residing in Vinh Trung village, Vinh Hoang commune) under emergency circumstances to investigate his alleged act of using a machete to attack police officers while they were on duty.
According to initial information, at around 6 PM on July 29th, after drinking alcohol, Dieu was walking on the road when he encountered Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Quang Sang (Police officer of Vinh Hoang commune) who was on duty.
Despite not knowing him and having no prior conflict, Dieu inexplicably blocked Sang's path, insulted him, and then punched him in the face. Not stopping there, the assailant then chased after him with a machete, but the victim managed to dodge and was not injured. Afterwards, Dieu returned home.
Upon receiving the report, the Vinh Hoang commune police dispatched officers to Dieu's house to summon him for questioning. However, the suspect refused to comply, barricading himself inside the house with a machete, displaying aggressive behavior and challenging the authorities.
When Major Ta Quang Phong and Captain Tran Minh Quang approached and urged him to surrender the weapon, Dieu suddenly lunged out with a machete, slashing multiple times, hitting both police officers in the shoulder and injuring them. After committing the crime, Dieu locked himself inside the door.
Realizing the suspect was acting aggressively, the Vinh Hoang commune police reported the matter to the provincial police leadership.
The police persistently tried to persuade and reason with the suspect for about 3 hours, but without success. Dieu still held the machete in his hand, ready to attack when the authorities approached.
The suspect even recklessly attacked the law enforcement officers with a machete in an attempt to escape. The task force immediately moved in, subdued him, disarmed him, and successfully apprehended him.
The case is still under investigation and will be handled in accordance with the law.
