Arrest of subject with drug conviction, trafficking more than 100kg of firecrackers

On November 4, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province Police said that the unit had just coordinated with Yen Thanh Commune Police, Traffic Police Department, and Police of Quan Thanh and Quynh Phu communes to arrest Tran Van Dung (born 2001), residing in Quan Thanh Commune, Nghe An Province, for the act of "Trading in prohibited goods", seized more than 100 kg of fireworks.

Through the investigation, the Criminal Police Department discovered that Tran Van Dung had signs of committing crimes related to firecrackers. This subject had a previous conviction for illegal possession of narcotics.

In early 2025, while working abroad, Tran Van Dung met a young man who offered to buy and sell fireworks in large quantities. At the end of October 2025, because he wanted to buy fireworks to resell for profit, Dung contacted the young man. After agreeing on the price, the young man packed more than 100 kg of fireworks into 4 boxes and disguised them as goods and shipped them to Vietnam for Dung by bus.

Identifying this as a ring of buying, selling, and storing large quantities of firecrackers imported from abroad, of a complex nature, negatively affecting the security and order situation in the area, the Criminal Police Department reported and asked for opinions from the Provincial Police leaders, mobilizing forces to effectively combat the above ring.

On the morning of October 27, the passenger bus carrying the fireworks that Dung bought arrived in Yen Thanh district (old). While Dung was asking someone to receive and transport the fireworks, he was arrested by the police. The seized evidence was 107 kg of foreign-made fireworks.

Currently, the Investigation Police Agency (Criminal Police Department) is criminally detaining Tran Van Dung for the act of "Trading in prohibited goods" and continuing to investigate and expand the case.
