Authorities arrested a man with a prior drug conviction for smuggling over 100 kg of firecrackers.
With the intention of buying fireworks to resell for profit during Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), Tran Van Dung contacted buyers, disguised the goods, and transported over 100 kg of fireworks from abroad to Vietnam via passenger bus.
On November 4th, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police announced that, in coordination with the Yen Thanh Commune Police, the Traffic Police Department, and the police of Quan Thanh and Quynh Phu communes, they had arrested Tran Van Dung (born in 2001), residing in Quan Thanh commune, Nghe An province, for the crime of "Trafficking in prohibited goods", authorities seized over 100 kilograms of firecrackers.

Through intelligence gathering, the Criminal Police Department discovered that Tran Van Dung showed signs of committing crimes related to firecrackers. This individual had one prior conviction for illegally possessing narcotics.
In early 2025, while working abroad, Tran Van Dung met a young man who offered him the opportunity to buy and sell large quantities of fireworks. In late October 2025, wanting to buy fireworks to resell for profit, Dung contacted the young man. After agreeing on a price, the young man packed over 100 kg of fireworks into four boxes, disguised them as regular goods, and shipped them to Dung in Vietnam via passenger bus.
Recognizing this as a large-scale illegal fireworks trafficking and storage ring that infiltrated from abroad, with complex characteristics and negatively impacting security and order in the area, the Criminal Police Department reported the matter and sought guidance from the provincial police leadership, mobilizing forces to effectively combat the ring.
By the morning of October 27th, the passenger bus carrying the fireworks that Dung had purchased arrived in the former Yen Thanh district. While Dung was having someone receive and transport the fireworks, the police apprehended him. The seized evidence included 107 kg of foreign-made firecrackers.
Currently, the Investigation Agency (Criminal Police Department) is holding Tran Van Dung in custody on charges of "Trading in prohibited goods" and is continuing to investigate and expand the case.
