Police arrest thug who smashed car and held a woman hostage with a knife in a taxi.
Immediately after receiving the information, the leaders of the Phu Tho Provincial Police were present at the scene to direct the plan and measures to ensure the absolute safety of the hostages and the surrounding residents.
At approximately 11 PM on July 20th, the Criminal Police Department of Phu Tho Provincial Police received a report from Hien Quan Commune Police regarding an incident involving an individual illegally detaining a person in the area of Ngoc Thap Bridge, Hien Quan Commune.
Immediately after receiving the information, Major General Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of the Provincial Police, along with Colonel Truong Quang Hai - Deputy Director and Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, were present at the scene to comprehensively direct the handling of the situation, organize forces, and implement plans and measures to ensure the absolute safety of the hostages and surrounding residents.
After more than 3 hours of tension, at around 2:30 AM on July 21st, under the direct and decisive leadership of the Director and Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, the police force successfully apprehended Mai Duc Giang (born in 1992), residing in Tram Than commune, safely rescuing the hostage and preventing any casualties.
According to initial investigations, the police determined that on the evening of July 20th, due to a personal conflict, Mai Duc Giang drove a motorcycle with license plate 21B1-552... to chase after a Green SM taxi with license plate 19H-067... driven by Nguyen Manh Cuong (born in 1996), residing in Au Co ward, carrying Mai Thi Thu Trang (born in 1996), residing in Tram Than commune.
Upon reaching the Ngoc Thap bridge area (Ho Chi Minh Highway, Hien Quan commune), Giang approached the taxi, used a metal bar to smash the car window, then attacked the driver with a sharp knife, causing injuries. Next, he stormed into the car, used the knife to threaten and intimidate Ms. Trang, cut her hair, and continued to inflict injuries, causing the victim to panic.
Currently, the Investigation Police Department of Phu Tho province has issued a decision to initiate a criminal case and temporarily detain Mai Duc Giang for investigation into the act of "illegal detention," and is continuing to investigate and clarify related acts to handle them strictly according to the law.
